The Archery Indoor season has, so far, proved to be very successful both in quality and quantity. Besides enjoying a constantly good turnout, the good level of shooting has, as expected, continued to improve with various National Records being broken especially in the Olympic Recurve Division. The Compound Division has also been consistently producing some excellent results. Last weekend was no exception on the Double 25 metres Round.
In the Senior Olympic Recurve Division Kevin Bonnici immediately showed his intentions by shooting a strong 278 for the first session and then shot a blistering 280 for a total of 558 points thus taking first place and breaking the existing record. Second place was gained with 527 points by cadet Luke Pellicano who sportingly opted to participate in the Senior division. Pellicano had already broken the Olympic Round National record the previous week with a score of 110 points out of a possible 120. Joseph Sultana took third place with a score of 430 points. Maria Formosa led the Ladies Olymic Recurve with a total of 475 points.
The Senior Compound competition turned out to be a very close one indeed with Dion Buhagiar and Kyvin Sant both shooting exactly 557 points each, with the former hitting 22 tens to clinch first place against the 20 tens of Kyvin Sant who secured second place and keeps improving with every shoot. Tony Falzon took third place with 550 points.
The Cadets Olympic Recurve Division also extracted some very good shooting by Jonathan Ellul with 483 points followed by Mark Bondin, who is a relative beginner with 404 points. Third place went to Luke Aquilina with a close 365 points followed by his plucky younger brother Beppe, who only started shooting a few weeks ago with 221 points.
The relatively new Barebow Division is also becoming more consistent in scores with John Aquilina obtaining first place with a creditable 395 points following by an improving John Gibson with 353 points.
The shoot was directed by Vincent Pellicano and judged by John Schembri who is also monitoring the archers as National Coach in view of the forthcoming international commitments.
