Malta Independent Wednesday, 27 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

New Ages Stars-All Ages Eurochange 24-36

The first encounter was from the first division where All Ages Eurochange registered a merited victory on New Ages Stars. Although the match was quite balanced, it was All Ages Eurochange who started better and by being more accurate in their shots, they managed to take the lead by four shots by the end of the first quarter.

In the second fraction, New Ages Stars came on court more aggressive and their efforts were rewarded by winning this quarter by one shot thus narrowing the gap to only three shots.

From their part, All Ages Eurochange were determined not to lose their composure and by producing more accurate shots than their opponents, they not only managed to hold on to their advantage in the subsequent two quarters but managed to also increase their lead to register their first seasonal success with the final score of 36-24.

Kerygma Kaizers-Sun Dreams Travel NRG B 34-13

This encounter from the first division had a fast start where both teams produced a high number of errors resulting in the score taking more than expected to get ticking. Apart from this, it was Kerygma Kaizers who ended ahead 7-2 by the end of the first quarter.

At the start of the second quarter, Sun Dreams Travel NRG B failed to keep up the pace with their opponents and consequentially the difference in score mid-way through the match was increased to ten shots in favour of Kerygma Kaizers.

Whilst Kerygma Kaizers progressed with their good rhythm, Sun Dreams Travel NRG B’s efforts to respond to their opponents’ dominant play proved in vain and the difference in score in the last two quarters continued to be extended.

In fact, as the final score indicates, Kerygma Kaizers easily claimed their five points whilst NRG failed to take home at least one point from this encounter.

New Ages Wildcats-Melliaha 7-29

The last match of the day was from the second division where Mellieha had an easy win against New Ages Wildcats.

Although both teams had an aggressive approach to the game, it was the more experienced Mellieha who took command of this encounter and continued to dominate till the end.

In fact by the end of the first quarter they were already enjoying a comfortable lead and with every passing quarter their advantage continued to be extended.

While New Ages Wildcats bravely persisted until the final whistle they were never in a position to worry their opponents who easily claimed the five match points.
