MLP Pays tribute to Gerald Ford

Malta Independent Thursday, 28 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Malta Labour Party, through its Foreign Affairs Spokesman Leo Brincat, has paid tribute to former US President Gerald Ford, who died on Tuesday at the age of 93.

Mr Brincat said that notwithstanding his modesty, Mr Ford succeeded in re-uniting his country in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal, and healing the wounds of the war in Vietnam. In his short spell in the White House, Gerald Ford restored public faith in the Presidency and the US Government, both of which had been badly damaged by the scandal that led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation in 1974. Mr Brincat also praised the former president’s dedication and integrity in carrying out his duties.
