Again, Gymstars Gymnastics Club had some very satisfactory results in an international competition held recently in Budapest, Hungary.
This was the first time that the club was competing in a competition of such a high level, together with nations like Holland, France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden and Hungary.
The Maltese group was prepared by the Bulgarian coach Plamen Angelov. They produced some impressive performances. Kristina Schranz, who also acted as judge on behalf of Gymstars, prepared the choreography.
In the elite group, Francesco Borg gave a good show and managed to enter the final to finish eighth, while Martina Galea showed a lot of talent and has a bright future ahead.
Unfortunately Audrey Schembri was sick and could not compete and Malta lost the chance to take part in the team competition.
However, the most impressive were undoubtedly the young athletes where Kirsty Caruana, Mia Vickery, Tara Dalli, Nicole Pace and Adriana Zammit managed to gain a bronze medal in the team’s competition.
Individually they all left their mark. Kirsty Caruana came first overall, in vault and floor and second on bars. Mia Vickery was second overall, first on bars and third on floor, Tara Dalli won silver on beam and bronze on floor, Adriana Zammit was third on floor, vault and bars and Nicole Pace won silver on vault and bronze. These results augurs well for other future international competitions coming next year.
