Lemonhead Productions is to stage an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein at the MITP theatre in April.

Nearly everyone is familiar with the story of Victor Frankenstein, the student of medicine whose ambition to bestow life on a corpse haunts him for the rest of his days. Several films have been inspired by this novel, most famously the one made by James Whale in 1931. The image of Boris Karlofff’s monster has become a cinematic icon.

There are also novels, short

stories, songs, plays, television series and paintings that found their inspiration in Mary Shelley’s dark tale. The novel is pregnant with meaning and therefore open to a number of interpretations, all of which contribute a particular colour to the rich tapestry that makes up the human soul. And there is a lot of soul in Frankenstein.

The script, in Maltese, for the Lemonhead adaptation was written by Noel Tanti.

The play will be produced and directed by Louise Muscat and Bryan Muscat respectively, whose past theatrical forays include the successful productions of Animal Farm (2000), Gurija Rrabjata (2002), Van Gogh (2004) and Bar Macbeth (2005).
