I heard the news that the government has plans to invest Lm3 million to pull down a still good enough school and build another one with awe. I heard that the existing area dedicated to education will be reduced, because a big parking area and the Law Courts and I don’t know what else are being planned too. This is good planning: catching the bull by the tail, instead of making more efficient the quasi non-existent public transport.

I think the new school will have ultra modern EU standards. It will reach the same standards of the new Sixth Form built a few years ago. They invested a lot of money in much iron and steel for it to be ultra strong and the science laboratories were finished to the highest standards. In fact the stools were really high, but the then government architect insisted on having them and part of the stools’ legs had to be lopped off afterwards.

The girls’ secondary school is to be blessed with a pitch of artificial turf even though the girls play mostly basketball – the ball does not bounce on turf. But maybe it will help in the advancement of women, because the girls will be persuaded to play football. How generous the EU is, and our mother, the government.

The girls’ school lacks a school hall. The parking area near Arkadia was part of the school grounds, and could have been home for this school hall. But it is no longer part of the school, because it is serving a better purpose and it really does not matter that the school has no hall.

Those who are in power are deciding what is best and proper for our schools in Gozo. Glory be to God! Please God, continue to enlighten them, but do not blind them with your powerful light. Continue keeping them free from corruption, so that they can work for our good and future. Amen.
