The MFA Women's Football sub-committee recently organised two 5-a-side football tournaments in the Under 13 and Under 17 categories. These were held at the San Gwann Football Complex, with the participants coming from local clubs and schools.
There were nine teams in the Under 13 category, with newcomers, San Andrea School, and Mgarr claiming the top two placings. They were followed by Hibernians, two teams from Birkirkara (Yellows and Reds), the other debutants, Valletta, and then St Venera. The last two teams, also participating for the first time time, were St Catherine School and Lija.
The competition in the older category, played on a round robin basis, was won by Melita who managed to beat second-placed Mosta in the final game. St Venera, Sliema Raiders and Hibernians all ended on equal points. Mgarr came next, followed by Lija.
At the end of the tournament, sub-committee chairman Alfred Zammit, on behalf of the MFA, presented medals to all participants and a plaque to the San Gwann committee for their kind gesture in making the turf pitch available.
