The Malta Table Tennis Association organised the first event of the Grand Prix tournament for season 2006/07. For newcomers, this event is played between the Top 24 ranked players in Malta. As usual this tournament attracts a good crowd since a high standard in this competition is always guaranteed.

The tournament is divided into two groups. Players ranked one to twelve play in the Gold Category while ranked players from 13 to 24 play in the Silver Category.

In the Gold Category the two top seeded players, namely Claudio Tufigno (ranked No.1) and Edward Baldacchino (ranked No.2) did not make it to the finals. Merit goes to the superb performance of David Pace who, in a very close and heart breaking final, beat Mark Azzopardi 9-11, 13-11, 13-11, 7-11, 14-12.

In the Silver category veteran player Matthew Micallef beat the 17 year old Mario Dimech.
