National Sporting contests: National football team fails to make it to finals

Malta Independent Sunday, 7 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The list of sportsmen and sportswomen and officials contesting the 36th National Sporting Contests (2006) have been announced by the Sportswriters Association (Ghaqda Kittieba Sport)

As can be seen from the lists below, shooter William Chetcuti and snooker champion Alex Borg have again made it to the list for the Sportsman of the Year contest.

Also included in the women’s section is Rebecca Madyson, the Maltese-Australian shooter who clinched a silver medal at last year’s Commonwealth Games.

One surprise is that the national football team failed to be among those nominated in the teams’ sector, despite their 2-1 victory over Hungary, considered by many sports enthusiasts in Malta, as one of the biggest feats of the sporting year!
