Over these past few days, I could not help but notice that while the Nationalist Party media has portrayed a very solid picture with regard to money spent during the Christmas period, the Labour Party media has done its best to play down what took place and give an overall gloomy picture.

They say that statistics are a matter of interpretation, but I could not help but smile when I heard NET TV say that the GRTU had reported good sales, and One News say that it had not been a good Christmas for businessmen.

The irony of it was that there were occasions when the footage shown did not correspond with what was being said. For example, while the One News reporter was

saying that sales were low and shop owners were not pleased, they showed people leaving shops carrying big bags.

Are we living in the same country? Why can’t we have a balanced outlook? Is PBS expected to provide such a balance between the two rival political stations?

It is no wonder that people are losing confidence in what they are being fed by the political parties and their media.
