Malta’s two professional players, Tony Drago and Alex Borg, had a most positive start to the year as they cruised into the third round of the Welsh Open .

Playing in the qualifying rounds, Borg won his opening two matches while Drago won his second round match and both of them are now in round 3 of qualifying which is to be played today.

In the first round, Alex Borg beat Matthew Couch 5-2 and in yesterday’s second round, he beat Paul Davies 5-4, clinching the final frame to earn his berth in the third round. Today he will be meeting Adrian Gunnell and it should be a tough match for Borg.Tony Drago scored a good 5-2 victory yesterday in the second round. Today, in the third round, he will be playing against Michael Judge.
