The developers of a plot of land in St Julian’s, situated close to the new Le Meridien Hotel, yesterday filed an official letter in court denying all the allegations the hotel owners made about their development, adding that their project is covered by a full development permit issued by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

BBR Construction Limited filed its official letter in reply to a judicial protest filed by the owners of Le Meridien Hotel in St Julian’s on Tuesday who claimed that although according to law the plans had to include a side cartilage along all the site, half of it has been eliminated but it was still given the necessary go-ahead by the health inspectorate.

But BBR Construction Ltd denied these allegations and said that the project will include the side cartilage according to the Mepa permit issued on 29 September 2006. It said the plans were verified by Mepa and all relevant authorities and the permit was finally issued and work started.

The construction company accused the hotel owners of obstructing it from carrying out its project according to the permit which has been issued because this development may obstruct the sea views of some of the hotel’s rooms.

It held the hotel owners responsible for damages it may sustain as a result of these obstacles despite knowing that the project is covered by a legal permit.
