Two cars parked in a garage in Gzira caught fire late on Tuesday night, the police said in a statement yesterday.

Police were informed that smoke was seen coming out of a garage in Moroni Street and preliminary investigations showed that a Ford Escort and a Fiat Uno that were parked in the garage had caught fire for some unknown reason.

Although nobody was injured in the incident, the police evacuated people living in neighbouring houses as a precautionary measure.

Duty Magistrate Audrey Demicoli appointed several experts to assist in the inquiry.

The police are investigating further.
