Educating Our children

Malta Independent Thursday, 11 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Your editorial Learning better (TMID, 6 January) was straight to the point.

In my opinion, it highlighted the problems that we need to tackle to make our education system better than it already is.

It is true that our youngsters today are being fed information that will not be useful to them once the examinations are over.

As you point out, why should they learn so much data when they will not be needing it once out of school?

It would be better to give today’s children a more comprehensive education, opening up their horizons to different circumstances and giving them a wider vision of the world we live in today.

It is good to know your language and your country’s history, but at the same time, children need to be prepared for their adulthood, and I believe that the way our education system works is not giving them this kind of preparation.
