This season will see the start of several new shows on NET TV, one of which is Espresso, which will be broadcast at 6.30pm, between Donne and Kontra l-Hin. Espresso will be hosted by different cafes around the island and will also see the return to the small screen of one of Malta’s most well-informed presenters, Jean Claude Micallef. With a running time of only 10 minutes, this will probably be Jean Claude’s biggest challenge, as chatting in cafes is an integral part of his life. Despite the show’s title, Jean Claude does not drink coffee himself but has confirmed that during his philosophical chat with his guest he will take a sip of an espresso, which will obviously be a strategic prop on the set.

The daily show will be produced by Impel Communications and Modern Image Studios Ltd, who have joined forces and will be producing other entertaining and lifestyle productions. Espresso will be their debut together and it is also Jean Claude Micallef’s debut on NET Television. Asked who is on Espresso’s guest list, Jean Claude replied that it can be anyone who has made an impact on general society – from poets and actors to presenters and DJs, as well as business people and members of the clergy. Jean Claude’s job will be to show how life has influenced the person being interviewed and how he or she became the personality we know.

So, as from 15 January, coffee time for most of us will take 10 minutes, and we’ll be enjoying it with pleasure with Jean Claude Micallef, who will decide the location, where – no matter what – he’ll be offering us an espresso.
