A Dying breed

Malta Independent Saturday, 13 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Shame on the evil person/s who murdered the klieb tal-fenek in Gozo earlier this week. The act itself is despicable enough committed on any animal, but it is more serious when such a beautiful breed as the national hound of Malta, which is already in danger of disappearing from our islands, is exterminated so heartlessly.

We are already losing much on our inheritance with the development of rural areas. We also read recently of the death of the last Maltese bull, and now there is this cowardly behaviour towards Malta’s living heri-tage. The kelb tal-fenek is a docile and lovable breed, so what could the three poor Gozitan dogs have done to deserve being slain?

When will we ever learn that man is not superior to any other animal inhabiting this world of ours, which is already overpopulated with too many people but not enough human beings. “Such is the human race, it often seems a pity that Noah... didn’t miss the boat!” – Mark Twain.
