President Edward Fenech Adami visited several schools in Lija yesterday as part of his official visit to the village.

Speaking to Annibale Preca primary school students, President Fenech Adami said he was glad to see young people gain academic knowledge while developing their personal talents.

He also praised the school’s initiative in composing the school anthem, which includes part of Lija’s history.

“The town’s history forms part of the Maltese identity – something of which we should be proud,” said Dr Fenech Adami.

He went on to add that each person has an important contribution to make to his or her country and said that history is the sum total of what each person does.

The students presented Dr Fenech Adami with a donation for the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Dr Fenech Adami also visited the St Angela nursery school, which is run by the Ursoline sisters.

Later yesterday evening, the president met several NGOs at the university residence.
