The USS Nitze (DDG-94) is on a visit to Malta for a few days. The ship’s name honours Paul H. Nitze, whose distinguished career in the United States government included serving as Secretary of the Navy from 1963 to 1967.

The USS Nitze, an Arleigh Burke Class Aegis Destroyer, operates independently or as part of carrier battle groups, surface action groups, amphibious ready groups and underway replenishment groups. The ship has a crew of 300, including 30 officers. The commanding officer is Commander Robert N. Hein, United States Navy.
