Faulty Lamps

Malta Independent Friday, 19 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Consumer and Competition Division, which is responsible for the enforcement of the Product Safety Act in Malta, has received various reports of fire incidents in houses allegedly caused by night-lamps of the Hengsheng brand, Dim Night Lighting, Model HS-309.

These night-lamps, sold mainly through the open air market stalls, do not conform with the requirements of the Low Voltage Electrical Equip-ment Regulations of 2002 and pose serious risk of electrocution.

The division warned yesterday that any consumer who bought this product should immediately stop using it.

The Consumer and Com-petition Division is taking steps to ensure that the product is withdrawn from the market.
