Anton Tabone, Speaker of the House of Representatives, received at his Chambers Jurek Juszczyk, High Commissioner of Australia.

The meeting focused on strengthening the existing excellent relationship between the two countries, particularly at the parliamentary level. Mr Tabone recalled his visits to Australia on different occasions. He referred to the ties of friendship between the two peoples highlighting the Maltese contribution towards Australia’s development.

Mr Tabone underlined the importance of a closer inter-parliamentary dialogue between the parliamentary institutions of both countries with a view to discuss issues of common concern. He continued that he was looking forward to the visit of Paul Calvert, President of the Australian Senate, and his accompanying delegation, in March.

Mr Juszczyk expressed his agreement to a constructive parliamentary exchange between the two countries and augured that the visit of the President of the Australian Senate to Malta will contribute to achieve such aims.
