Nationalist MP Joseph Falzon and Labour MP Joseph Debono Grech, members of the Malta delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, will be attending the First Part of the 2007 Ordinary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to be held in Strasbourg between Monday and Friday.

During this part session, Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos A Karamanlis, and His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I will be addressing the assembly.

Among the subjects to be debated during this part session are:

• sexual assaults linked to “date-rape drugs”;

• child victims: stamping out all forms of violence, exploitation and abuse; Mrs Ann Veneman, Executive Director of UNICEF and HRH Princess Caroline of Hanover, President of the World Association of Children’s Friends will be delivering statements during the course of the debate;

• peril of using energy supply as an instrument of political pressure;

• honouring of obligations and commitments by Armenia and Albania;

• current situation in Kosovo with a statement by Mr Ahtisaari, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the future status process for Kosovo;

• agriculture and illegal employment in Europe;

• situation of migrant workers in temporary employment agencies;

• HIV/AIDS in Europe;

• the precautionary principle and responsible risk management;

• fair trial issues in criminal cases concerning espionage or divulging state secrets; and

• towards responsible food consumption.
