Marsa Beat Overseas at cricket

On Saturday the Cricket Winter League continued with Marsa C.C playing Overseas C.C. The Overseas team was missing captain Mike Smith. The team was led by youngster Sunny Krishna.

Overseas won the toss and elected to bat. Alan Kyle and Joy Ghoseroy opened the batting. They were on top of the bowlers until Kyle was hit on the glove from a rising ball and had to retire. He had made 16 runs.

Ghoseroy was next to go in the following over when he was trapped L.B.W from a Hewitt delivery.

In the next 11 overs Sunny and brother Sagar put on 44 runs. Sunny was caught trying to hit a big shot and only managing to sky the ball. Sagar also was out trying to hit a big shot but unfortunately for him he missed and was stumped. Sagar had made 32 runs. Pierre Naudi who had not played for 18 months batted and made four runs.

Andy Cole, also returning after two years, batted and managed one run. Nick Khosla made 12 runs. Overseas were bowled out in the 19th over for 113 runs. For Marsa Sarfraz Ali took three wickets for 25 runs and Mike Caruana took two wickets for 13 runs.

Marsa’s reply started off well with Ronnie Sacco hitting the first four of the day in the first over in the Marsa innings. Unfortunately for him Sacco, Sagar Krishna bowled an extremely good first ball and clean bowled him for five runs.

Mark G.Sacco and Robert Krishna then put on a 104 run partnership taking the score to 111 runs, two runs short of the total. Krishna was caught at backward point for 27 runs by Tony Slater. Mark G.Sacco remained unbeaten on 44 runs.

Marsa won the game and earned eight points which put them on top of the ladder with 28 points. Second is Krishna C.C with 27 points and Overseas who did not gain any points in this game are on five points.

Today Marsa take on Krishna. The nursery/academy will be from 9.30am till 11.30am.
