Further Training programmes for the tourism industry

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

The Malta Tourism Authority is to hold a further 11 customer service training programmes for the tourism industry by popular demand following the successful training programmes introduced by the MTA in collaboration with MISCO last year.

The “Merhba” and “Service Culture” training programmes, have proved to be particularly popular with employees of ADT, Air Malta, Gozo Channel, MIA personnel, private coach and taxi drivers, coachmen and route bus drivers, as well as supervisors and managers of hotels, restaurants and other tourist service providers. The demand was so high that even these courses are already fully subscribed by those who were unable to attend the previous training programmes due to over-subscription.

The “Tourism and Support Services Training Programme” is partly funded by the EU’s European Social Fund and all training programmes provided are free of charge. The development of this project arises primarily from the need to pursue a holistic approach to training and human resource development in tourism and tourism-support services.

The programme includes training in Service Culture in the tourism industry, benchmarking improvement of standards and working practices, training transport service providers’ on the ability to communicate with tourists and to provide helpful information about Malta, training assistance and support to small and independent businesses to help them implement high quality and effective development plans to foster growth within their respective companies, as well as a study on lifelong learning for the tourism sector.
