Justin Falzon - One step closer to international success

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Justin Falzon, the Gozitan artist who is currently finishing a two-year course at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Art Institute in Florence, was chosen together with other students to participate in a city-wide art exhibition at the Uffizzi Centre and St James Cathedral. The exhibition was organised last December by the Institution of Developing Expressive Art. Last year Justin was one of the artists chosen among 100 artists from 15 different countries to participate in an exhibition organised in Florence by the Florencimento Art Organisation.

The project involved a varied exhibition featuring artists from all disciplines, from all different directions and from all nations. The process included a collaboration of all the students of Florence and they created a unique forum for a student exhibit, with roots in different backgrounds, life experiences and forms of personal expression. From classical realism to contemporary art, they tried to capture people continuing to define themselves and their work while in the common community of Florence. This unique exhibition spawned a dialogue between schools and nationalities, to foster artistic and social growth.

Students taking part in this exhibition hailed from the US, Russia, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Canada, Iceland, UK, US Virgin Island and Malta. Justin Falzon representing Malta was chosen first in painting, with a self-portrait, while the other two winning categories were drawing and photography. Justin will be completing his two-year course at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Art Institute in May, and his intention is to further his artistic studies.
