Adrian Mamo has been appointed chairman of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

The council is responsible for Malta’s cultural policy, particularly the visual and performing arts. The Council has been supporting more quality events that not only promote culture and the arts but also add value to the Malta product.

New projects included the revamped Summer Arts Festival in the Old Opera House ruins as well as events such as Notte Bianca, Notte Magica and the exhibition of children’s paintings from 141 different countries that started in Malta.

Adrian Mamo graduated as an architect and civil engineer from the University of Malta in 1989 and worked for the Antiquities Division of the Works Department. He then spent two years running the video graphics studio of Associated News Ltd before setting up Architects Studio in partnership with three colleagues.

He was responsible for the design of the Malta stand for World Expo 2000 in Hanover, the Visitor Centre of the Hypogeum, the Press Centre for CHOGM and most recently the setting of the Summer Arts Festival 2006 around the ruins of the Old Opera House for the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts. He has designed numerous stage sets for theatre and television and is one of the founders and current production manager of Voices, a voluntary initiative and Malta’s largest musical event.
