This April, the Manoel Theatre will be welcoming the Royal Danish Ballet to its stage. The Royal Danish Ballet is looking forward to this unique opportunity, within the intimate atmosphere of the Manoel.

“It’s a privilege to be here. Though the

theatre is very different from what we are

used to, I am looking forward to the intimacy it offers,” said Peter Bo Bendixen, artistic director of the soloists and principles of the Royal Danish Ballet.

In a press conference on Monday, Mr Bo Bendixen explained that due to obligations at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, the ballet was limited to eight performances a year abroad, usually in New York, European capital cities and the Far East. In spite of these limitations, the performance was made possible through the persistence and hard work of Noel Buttigieg Scicluna, Malta’s Ambassador to Denmark, and the support of the Danish Arts Council.

Accompanied by Princess Benedikte, The Royal Danish Ballet will perform in Malta on Easter Sunday, which falls on 8 April, and will include Balanchine’s Apollo, Rushton’s Triplex, Bournville’s La Sylphide, and the third act from Napoli.

Mr Bo Bendixen said ballet students will be invited to the general rehearsal, adding that the ballet is obliged to share its experience with as many people as possible.

In Malta there are currently over 2000 ballet students, and 28 schools of ballet.
