The next in the series of Cultural Tours will be exploring traditional Maltese trades, taking its participants to the very heart of Maltese history and culture. This tour will take place on Sunday 28 January.

The tour will be exploring the production of honey in Malta. Honey has been a traditional product of Malta since the Roman occupation, at which time our islands were used as a hub for honey and olive oil exports. The participants will be able to witness the process of crushing for fruit wines. These products will also be available for tasting.

The tour will include a close look at one of the well-known traditional Maltese crafts: the making of filigree. The visit will also be exploring the production of the silver twisted threads with which filigree is made.

In addition, the tour will be looking at the traditional textile trade, and the equipment that was and is still used in the production of textiles. There will also be a visit to Fort St Lucian, which is currently the location of a research centre for fish and aquaculture.

The Cultural Tours are coordinated by the Tourism and Culture Ministry, in collaboration with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, the Malta Tourism Authority and Heritage Malta.

Transport will leave Floriana (next to the Independence Monument) and Sliema (from opposite Nazzarene church) at 8.45am.

Tickets are at Lm4.50 for adults and Lm3.50 for senior citizens and children.
