Heritage Malta will bring to life the Maltese sailor under the Order of St John and in the Royal Navy at the Malta Maritime Museum, in Vittoriosa, on Sunday 28 January between 2pm and 4.30pm.

Visitors to the museum will learn more about life on naval vessels during the late 18th Century and early 19th Century. Historical interpreters will depict various roles including sailors, gunners and soldiers on the gallery battalions. They will give information about the weapons and the fighting techniques used. They will also talk about daily life on board, such as the typical daily menu and how sailors spent their free time.

The historical interpreters will also perform a musketry drill and fire a naval cannon.

Two guided tours, in Maltese, incorporating the above displays will take place at 2pm and 3.30pm.

In a separate hall, Heritage Malta’s Keeper of Models at the Malta Maritime Museum, Joe Abela, will give a talk on model ship-making and restoration. Two talks will be held, also at 2pm and 3.30pm. Abela will show the type of material and tools used in the building of such models and the stages necessary in the restoration of antique models.

Admission to the Malta Maritime Museum on 28 January between 2pm and 4.30pm will be at half price for adults, while persons under the age of 16 will enter free of charge.

This activity will be repeated on Sunday 25 February and Sunday 25 March.
