The Local Councils Executive Secretaries Association (ASKLM) and the Local Councils Association (AKL) have begun a consultation process to improve cooperation and the relations between the two associations.

The AKL is also holding meetings with several stakeholders that are directly involved in local council governance.

During their first meeting, both associations agreed to improve the communication channels between the elected members and the local council official executives.

Furthermore, they also decided to hold regular meetings and to continue working on an international level to improve the life of the residents.

AKL president Michael Cohen said the time has come for all main stakeholders in the field of local governance to identify alternative routes, which finance and improve the present

system.

“A change is needed after 13 years while always keeping the interests of the families we represent at the forefront,” said Mr Cohen.

ASKLM president Adrian Mifsud pointed out collaboration will boost the roles of local councillors, mayors and all those involved, thus providing a better service to all the Maltese and Gozitan residents.
