The Criminal Court yesterday ordered a man’s re-arrest after it was ruled that he is not eligible to be granted bail in view of his previous convictions and the fact that another man who was with him during the alleged theft has not been caught yet.
Costantino Gouder, 25, from Valletta, was last Tuesday charged with committing a theft from a home in Mosta on Sunday to the detriment of Teresa and Maria Schembri. He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm10,000.
But the Attorney General appealed the decision to grant bail and the Criminal Court, presided over by Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano upheld this request on the grounds that he had several previous convictions. Chief Justice De Gaetano ordered the man’s re-arrest and that he be held in custody.
Police Inspectors Geoffrey Azzopardi and Therese Sciberras are prosecuting.
