Cool Running at Malta International Airport

Malta Independent Friday, 26 January 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Malta International Airport plc, through its Activities and Sports Club, for the first time held a 5km and a 10km race on an exclusive route along the perimeter of the airport.

Although the race was limited only to airport employees, the event received a successful response with 120 participants taking up the challenge, including 11 females. Indeed, the event was well represented with ages varying from 19 to 59, from all levels and professions including the CEO, the CFO and managers of MIA plc as well as four non-Maltese participants.

A further enhancement was the presence of prominent officials of the Malta Olympic Committee and some of Malta’s best athletes on an unusual mission since, for once, it was they who had to encourage the participants to keep going.

Both races were divided into four age groups for males and an open group for the female runners. Paul Camilleri was the overall winner of the 10km race with an excellent finish in 00:37:02 while James Testa was the overall winner of the 5km after completing the race in 00:21:51.
