Young 16-year-old Daniela Delicata had never before submitted songs to any festival, let alone to what in Malta is considered to be the most prestigious of them all: the Malta Song for Europe. She was therefore elated when a song she had penned herself, Little Islands in Your Heart managed to overcome the hurdles of two international jury panels to reach the semi-finals.
Like many singers, Daniela’s singing career started at her school. As a student at St Joseph School, Blata l-Bajda, she was given many opportunities to show her talents. One such activity was a concert held on the occasion of CHOGM, at which HM Queen Elizabeth II was present, in which Daniela had a leading part. Her talent was noted during one of the school soirees through which she was invited to join the Malta Academy of Performing Arts.
Music pays an important role in Daniela’s life. At the age of six, she started learning music and classical guitar.
She has now reached an advanced stage in her music education and intends to continue her studies.
Daniela admits that modern pop music is very much to her liking and she is particularly fond of Mariah Carey and Beyonce Knowles.
She is currently following a year-long course for singers run by the Malta Academy of Performing Arts in conjunction with the JC Academy (UK).
Daniela hopes that following her participation in the Malta Song for Europe Festival, she will concentrate on her course, write and record new material and hopefully release her first single this year.
