Valletta Alive Foundation congratulates all those who were involved in the Notte Magica of 6 January including the Tourism and Culture Ministry, NnG Productions, the local council, various individuals and all the shops and catering outlets which remained opened during the event.
The foundation believes that an activity, which it organised last summer, BOV Streets Alive, was instrumental in making people aware that Valletta has a lot to offer in the evenings.
The event spanned four consecutive Fridays and, with each Friday, the number of shops that remained open consistently increased.
BOV Streets Alive therefore was a contributing factor to the subsequent success of Notte Bianca (14 October 2006) and the Notte Magica. BOV Streets Alive was part of a process, which has made evenings in Valletta today very different from what they were a mere six months ago.
The funds spent on such events, much of which are generated from sponsorships, are an investment in Valletta and the retail and catering businesses, which operate within it.
The foundation intends to organise BOV Streets Alive once more over six consecutive Fridays next summer.
Apart from culture and music, there will be a focus on leisure shopping.
The experience of the past six months demonstrates that leisure shopping is complementary to other leisure activities and should therefore become an integral part of evening leisure activities in Valletta.
