Floriana kept their slim hopes of making it to the championship pool alive, with an easy victory over lowly St George's.

Without setting houses on fire Floriana emerged easy winners against a St George's side that was a far cry from the team who gave such good showings recently.

Effiong after some encouraging performances was a pale shadow of the player that impressed so much in his previous outings. He was never in the match, completely blotted out by an excellent Ian Azzopardi.

The match was a complete bore to watch, with Floriana taking an early lead, with St George's never in the match. The Saints' best patch came at the start of the second half but it was too little for them to take something from this match.

After scoring the second goal, the Greens completely outclassed their opponents, with the Saints completely at their mercy. Mano Micallef who came in as a substitute at the start of the second half, was surely one of the best on the field of play, with Spasojevic showing some neat touches.

Floriana started the match with Manolito Micallef, Gangortsa and Adrian Mifsud on the substitute's bench. Wendell Gomes returned for the Greens, and partnered Spajosevic in attack.

Effiong and Mizzi were the Saints' strikers, with the former marked in turns by Ian Azzopardi and Ryan Newell.

Floriana took the lead in their first real attempt when from a Cassar freekick, defender Ryan Newell scored with an overhead kick.

St. George's had no answer to this apart from a feeble effort by Mizzi ten minutes later. Floriana were better on the field of play as they tried to orchestrate their moves in flowing fashion. However as time elapsed Floriana lost much of their flair.

On 22 minutes Trevor Cilia crossed from the right towards Spasojevic whose shot was blocked by Conceicao. Christian Cassar shot wide from the edge of the area. Play dragged on with St. George's in existent in attack and with the Greens unable to take full advantage of their opponent's black-out.

In the last minutes Effiong who was nowhere to be seen in the first half, had two attempts going well over the bar. Four minutes from time Effiong was caught napping in front of goal missing his side's best chance. On the other end Trevor Cilia found space on the left, with his shot going wide.

Mano Micallef came in for Formosa at the start of the second half. St George's were more determined in the second half with Lee Grima hitting over the bar after a couple of minutes. The same Grima tested Camilleri on 57 minutes.

Wendell Gomes hesitated in front of goal missing a sitter. Minutes later Lee Grima's weak attempt was easily saved by Camilleri.

On 70 minutes St George's had their best scoring opportunity when Lawrence Mizzi floated a perfect cross from the right, and Heathcliff Schembri's point blank shot was brilliantly saved by Matthew Camilleri.

On the other end Floriana sealed the issue with the second goal when Trevor Cilia put through by Mano Micallef, beat Gatt with a low shot.

The Saints were now in disarray and Ian Azzopardi went close again for the Greens with a close range header. Floriana had many scoring chances near the end with Andrea Gatt saving his chance on many occasions. On 94 minutes Floriana scored their third and final goal, with credit going to Spasojevic who beat a couple of defenders before passing to Trevor Cilia who scored his brace with a neat chip over Andrea Gatt.
