The Chamber Music Concert which will be held at the Sala Isouard of the Manoel Theatre tomorrow at 7.30pm will not only feature the doyenne of Maltese pianists Cynthia Turner but also Wolfgang Klos at the viola and who is a professor of music in his own right and vice-rector of the University of Music and Performing Arts of Vienna.

Also joining these veteran musicians will be three young celebrities, Marianna Oczkowska, Sayaka Iwanbuchi and Endre Kertesz, who will perform both solo pieces and join in the renowned Schumann Piano Quintet.

This promises to be a not too common occasion of concerted multi-national talents since all the performers hail from different countries, namely Malta, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Japan. Indeed this proves to be an outstanding combination typical of the musical activities we are now accustomed to when organised by Malta International Airport in tandem with the Manoel Theatre.

The Schumann Piano Quintet needs no introduction. It was completed in 1842 when Schumann combined the pianoforte to his string quartets, a combination which until then was not well-known. It was first performed in Schumann’s house with Clara Schumann at the pianoforte and later with Mendelsshon sight-reading the difficult work which led him to recommend to Schumann to change the original middle section of the second movement in A flat to F minor and also to compose the second trio to the Scherzo.

Oczkowska, Iwanbuchi and Kertesz will regale the audience with solo works by Bach, Bacewics and Wieniawski whilst together with Wolfgang Klos they will conclude the first part of the programme with Dvorak’s Terzetto op. 74 for two violins and viola in C Major.
