Heritage Malta is continuing its series of public lectures with an update on the Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Conservation and Presentation Project

The lecture will be given by Dr Reuben Grima on Tuesday 6 February at Heritage Malta’s Head Office, Merchants Street Valletta at 6.30pm. The Hagar Qim and Mnajdra project consists in the conservation of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra through the installation of temporary protective shelters, a new visitors’ centre that will offer better interpretation of the sites and an archaeological park. The project is being funded by the European Union Structural Funds Programme for 2004-2006. Dr Grima’s lecture will outline the progress achieved, the problems encountered, and the challenges ahead. This will be followed by time for discussion and questions.

Dr Grima is the senior curator of the World Heritage Sites Unit at Heritage Malta, which manages the Maltese prehistoric sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. He is a member of Malta’s National Commission for UNESCO and of the Scientific Committee for the Conservation of the Megalithic Temples, as well as being the project Leader of the EU Structural Funds project for the Conservation and Presentation of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra. His present research interests include the landscape context of Malta’s Late Neolithic monuments, and the creation of archaeological narratives that are accessible to wider audiences.
