Champions Birkirkara FC were yesterday reported to be close to clinching a deal with Nigerian defender/midfielder Precious Monye, who formed part of the Championship winning team last season.

Monye was not retained by the Stripes at the start of the season due to a torn ligament which could have forced him out of the squad for a long period. But he has now recovered and has been training with the Stripes for the past few weeks.

If the Stripes manage to clinch his signature, it will be a big boost for Stephen Azzopardi’s squad as they still hope to retain the title.
