The three officials of the Institute of Maltese Journalists, Malcolm J. Naudi (chairman), Joe A. Vella (secretary) and Mario Schiavone (treasurer) were re-elected uncontested at the IGM Annual General Meeting held earlier this week. However, there was a healthy contest for the posts of members on the council.
Following an election held during the annual general meeting, the IGM has two new faces on its council, Charles Flores and Sergio Mallia, while Julia Farrugia and Roderick Agius were re-elected.
During the meeting the members approved a recommendation by the council to continue discussions with the journalists’ committee for the setting up of a trade union for journalists, which if set up, will be completely independent and autonomous from the Institute of Maltese Journalists. The institute will continue to work on its stated objectives to improve the standard of journalism, through ethics, education and professionalism.
