New Physicians association

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The L-Ghaqda Maltija ghat-Tobba ghall-Emergenza (Association of Emergency Physicians of Malta – GMTE/AEPM) has, after many years of work, been set up.

The first council has been elected, officers appointed and the council has already met to start developing a strategy to fulfil the aspirations and goals of the association.

The areas of competence of the GMTE/AEPM include both the pre-hospital and in-hospital aspects of emergency medicine. The aims of the GMTE/AEPM include, among others, the promotion of the highest professional standards, both in the practice of emergency medicine, as well as in the undergraduate and postgraduate training in emergency medicine; public education and the formation of public opinion in matters related to emergency medicine; and maintaining close links with other professional organisations so that advances in other specialities may be applied to patients within the emergency department.

The GMTE/AEPM said it intends to work with other relevant specialist associations, both in Malta and abroad, to further the aims of the association.
