To mark the occasion of Malta’s debut in international football with the memorable friendly home match against Austria at the Empire Stadium, Stadium, Gzira on 24th February 1957, the MFA has published a handsome souvenir book.
The publication ‘50 Years of International Football’ is an informative review of Malta’s international participation extending to 283 national ‘A’ team friendly and competitive matches, with comments on a number of our national team’s games included in the panorama of Malta’ football history.
The book is lavishly illustrated and evokes memories of several episodes in our international trek, including the latest victory against Hungary in a Euro qualifier which Malta won last October, besides those of prestigious home matches against England, Italy, West Germany and Spain, among others.
There are also statistics of all our matches and players’ appearances for Malta and information on our international matches of different categories as well as results of our teams’ participation in European competitions since season 1961-1962.
The publication was jointly produced by chairman and MFA vice-president John Farrugia, Albert Fenech (Editor), Benny Pace and Joe Sacco, with Louis Micallef being responsible for the coordination.
This book, a must for every collector’s shelves, is selling at Lm3 and is available from the Reception Desk at the MFA Headquarters, 280 St Paul’s Street, Valletta, and from Dominic Anastasi (Panini) and Geraldu Kiosk retail outlets in Valletta.
