Less, Not more

Malta Independent Friday, 2 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The Nationalist Party media is blowing its trumpets by stating that the Maltese people have started receiving more money due to the income tax measures introduced in the last budget.

But since then the central bank intervention rate has already rose twice, by 0.25 per cent each time. This means that thousands of Maltese families who have home loans will be paying more for their homes.

The government may justly argue that this is not its decision. But, considering that most of the families borrow much more money than they can save, this means that they will be having less and not more money in their pockets!
