Accepting The Church’s teachings

Malta Independent Saturday, 3 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Marisa Micallef (TMID, 29 January) wrote that we Maltese like to keep up appearances. That may be the case with a few, but many of us truly want to follow the Church’s teachings.

This does not signify that we do not sin because, after all, to err is human. We are merely weak mortals who fall easily into temptation but God is ready to forgive us when we show repentance and so we get up to start again with His help.

The crowds running after the new Archbishop indicate that most of us want to accept the Church’s teachings or at least try to follow them. I would not dream of imposing anything on anyone but is it not the same thing if I had to put up with the divorce law when I disagree with the passing of such a law? It may come as a surprise to some because, you see, it is not only the Church’s celibate spokespersons who come up with these ideas.
