The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce is holding an exhibition of paintings by Joe Spiteri Staines and silvercraft by Kevin Attard called “Faces, Earrings and More”.

Joe Spiteri Staines, though quite mature in years, is relatively new on the local art scene. His favourite medium is pastel. A medium he feels is rather undervalued in the world of art and especially in Malta. Pastels give one an immediacy that no other medium has and the vibrant colors achieved working with pure pigment are difficult to obtain with other mediums.

The exhibition, besides a selection of landscapes and seascapes, consists of a series of portraits of ladies wearing beautiful earrings created by Kevin Attard. He has no pre-conceived idea as to what message his art wants to portray. He enjoys his art and wants to reproduce the beauty of nature and the world in a way that other people can enjoy as well.

The exhibition is at the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, Palazzo De La Salle, 219, Republic Street, Valletta from 9 to 23 February, Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm, and from 4.30 to 6.30pm. Saturday between 9.30am and noon. Entrance is free.
