Gozo Carnival Spread over two weekends

Carnival in Gozo will again be held over two weekends this year following the success all events had last year when the committee for cultural events in the Ministry for Gozo implemented changes to the annual organised festivities.

The Gozo Carnival starts in Victoria on Friday with a defile’ and dance and costume competitions followed by the Nadur Carnival on Sunday in the afternoon.

The Children’s Carnival includes competitions between primary and secondary schools for best dance and costume that will take place on Friday 16, with a repeat on Saturday and Sunday morning. Friday evening will also include Carnival events in the main squares of Xaghra and Xewkija.

On Saturday evening Carnival events will take place in Xewkija, Qala and San Lawrenz and on Sunday the main events will take place in Victoria’s main streets and enclosure.

On Monday, Carnival moves to Qala, Gharb and Sannat and on Tuesday the Grand Defile’ in Victoria that brings the celebrations to a close.

Carnival This year’s Carnival will include a new category entitled “Allegrija” – a mixture of humour and live musical tunes.

Besides the organised events, there will be the spontaneous Carnival in Nadur on the traditional Carnival days from

Friday to Tuesday.
