On Thursday 25 January I mailed some documents to my daughter in Paris. Being documents and being needed rather urgently, I went down to the Mosta post office and sent these as Registered Express mail, for which I paid Lm1.24.
When till the following Thursday morning (1 February) my daughter informed me that she still had not received the documents, I phoned the Customer Service at Maltapost to enquire the whereabouts of my letter. Supplying the registration number, the only answer I got was that my letter left Malta on Friday 26 January. But on Fridays there are no direct flights to Paris, so through where was my letter routed?
When I enquired about the fact that I sent the letter as Express apart from registered, I was told that the Express bit starts from when the letter reaches the country of destination.
On the evening of Thursday 1 February my daughter notified me of its arrival.
Therefore, a Registered Express letter from Malta to Paris took a whole seven days to arrive! Such a period is delivery for normal post, which would have cost me only 16 cents. I accept the fact that the Express service starts from the country of destination, but I am a customer of Maltapost, not any other.
Can Maltapost authorities explain this bad service?
