The General Workers Union has written to the Bank of Valletta management asking for joint recognition of bank staff with the Malta Union of Bank Employees.

The letter, which was also sent to the Director of Employment and Industrial Relations, was sent by the GWU professionals, finances and services section.

The section called for a meeting to be called before the MUBE starts discussions on the workers’ new collective agreement. The union said the workers’ will be represented by both unions during these discussions so that the members of the GWU are also represented during these discussions. The section said it was expected the management and the Director of Employment and Industrial Relations to intervene so that this meeting is held “before people with ulterior motives continue to undermine the unity between workers”.
