Court: Palestinian Conditionally discharged

Malta Independent Wednesday, 7 February 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

A 20-year-old Palestinian national was conditionally discharged for two years after he was found guilty of assaulting a policeman and slightly injuring him.

Amrou Mohamed El Taieb Ibrahim Awkil admitted to assaulting police constable Salvatore La Grasta on 7 June last year.

He further pleaded guilty to slightly injuring and threatening him, and failing to obey his orders as a public official.

The accused was also found guilty of breaching the peace, but was cleared of relapsing after the court found that the prosecution did not present sufficient evidence.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti presided over the court.

Police Inspectors Alfred Mallia and Mario Haber prosecuted.
