The Malta Film Commission’s new website was launched yesterday.

The site will be used by the commission to advertise filming facilities in Malta and to attract foreign investment.

An Anglo-German-Hungarian production is currently being filmed in Malta.

Industry, Investments and IT minister Austin Gatt said work is under way on a Polish TV series Kryminalni, with a storyline based in Malta.

The BBC will be shooting at various locations for a documentary on the siege of Toulon in 1793 and a Turkish production in March is also scheduled for this year, Dr Gatt said.

He said that 2007 will be a bumper year for small and medium sized projects and this is exactly what the government wanted.

Dr Gatt added that the government will be investing Lm90,000 in advertising this year, adding that in 2006 alone, for every Lm1 of public funds invested the net return for the economy was Lm13.

Dr Gatt said the government was working on a 10-year plan for the sector and following a study by international experts on what should be done, a consultation process with stakeholders will begin in the coming weeks.
