The Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport (Maltese Council for Sport) has set up a Commission to plan and organise after school sports sessions named Community Sports Programme.
The aim is to make physical activity an attractive option to school-aged children, as it will be held in a familiar environment and at a convenient time. The first sessions will be held in March.
The commission is meeting on a regular basis to analyse the needs of school-aged children between ages 5 and 10 so that this programme will be directly aimed to satisfy these needs.
The pilot programme will be introduced in four schools and will include 10 sessions of the children’s favourite sports activities.
The commission will analyse the pilot project and prepare a national plan to introduce the Community Sports Programme in all primary and secondary schools.
