The police are investigating the shooting of an Eritrean migrant in Marsa, which took place in the early hours of yesterday morning.

In a statement, the police said that the shooting victim was kept at St Luke’s Hospital for further treatment, but that his condition was not life-threatening.

The police said they were informed that an argument had broken out between a group of Maltese and foreign nationals near Xatt il-Mollijiet in Marsa.

Preliminary investigations established that the Maltese national, as yet unidentified, fired a shotgun and hit the victim.

A paramedic crew arrived shortly after and rushed the man to hospital.

His condition is now stable.

Duty Magistrate Audrey Demicoli appointed a number of experts to help her draw up an onsite inquiry. Meanwhile, the police have launched their own investigation.
